Editorial Review
City Homicide focuses on four young police detectives, Jennifer Mapplethorpe (Nadine Garner), Simon Joyner (Daniel MacPherson), Duncan Freeman (Aaron Pedersen), and Matt Ryan (Damien Richardson), and their superiors, Detectives Stanley Wolfe (Shane Bourne) and Bernice Waverley (Noni Hazlehurst), as they deal with day-to-day life in a major metropolitan homicide investigations unit.
This episode sees the squad investigate the death of local star footballer Cameron Gunning (Blair McDonough) after he is king-hit and left for dead in an alleyway. As the investigation progresses, it becomes apparent that Gunning's squeaky clean facade conceals a history of bad behaviour, and that the well-connected club president is willing to do anything to keep the skeletons in the closet.
Unlike many locally produced programs which tend to suffer from low budgets, bad writing and even worse acting, City Homicide is gripping. The storylines are realistic and relevant and the performances are top-notch, which isn't surprising considering the cast is a who's who of Australian acting. If you're a fan of hard-boiled cop drama, you'll be glued to the screen.
City Homicide airs on the Seven Network on Monday, September 1, at 8:30pm.
