Editorial Review
After escaping the destruction of Pompeii, The Doctor (David Tennant) and Donna Noble (Catherine Tate) venture from the past to the future, landing the TARDIS in the frigid landscape of The Ood-Sphere. While skipping through the snow, the time travellers come across a near-dead Ood and another quest begins to unfold.Planet of the Ood is Earthling Donna’s first trip to an alien planet and she has to adapt herself quickly to the strange tentacle-faced, translator ball-toting Ood. At first horrified at the Ood’s appearance, Donna manages to pull herself together for a clumsy attempt at communication before finding, as the Ood dies, that her compassion is universal. This is a great character-building scene for Tate, who is still growing (rather well) into the role as The Doctor’s latest companion.
As you’d expect from an episode of Doctor Who, there is much wrong-doing to set right with little more than psychic paper and a sonic screwdriver. The storylines are tight and offer intriguing parallels to our own world; this episode’s approach to the Oods enforced slavery is no exception to the rule.
Doctor Who: Planet of the Ood airs on ABC1 on Sunday, 20 July, at 7.30pm.

Donna of F'ston: David Tennant is so very talented and gorgeous, that it is worth tolerating the ugliness of the Oods just to see him. I so look forward to watching Dr Who every Sunday... It ROCKS.. (18 July 2008)
Sydney Mike: Catherine Tate was a terrible choice; a loud, foul mouthed cow. Poor Dr Who (17 July 2008)
Tate Lover: I love this new series, and I love Catherine Tate as Donna. Can't wait to see her with the Ood - my favourite new monsters! (16 July 2008)
