Darac Grill & Bar
51 A'Beckett Street, Melbourne
This end of town is becoming quite the hub for new eateries. Darac Grill & Bar is a simple and modern restaurant that has brought back the well-loved Grill, albeit Korean style. Korean restaurants are getting better and better in Melbourne and Darac is a good example. While some dishes are completely traditional, such as the beef bulgogi and the kimchi pancake, lash out and try the strangely moreish cheese fire chicken. Other popular dishes are the sashimi sets (seared at the table) and the pork shabushabu. Lots of Koreans frequent Darac’s which is always a good sign too.

Tiny
51 Cromwell Street, Collingwood
Essentially a design studios' stairwell, Tiny has moved in underneath, like a far, far cooler Harry Potter. The brainchild of Michael Pham, this cleverly reclaimed space crams a surprising amount in. Three or four little perch tables are perfect for two, and tasty homemade sandwiches on Chimmy's bread as well as yummy croissants accompany Pham's coffee perfection. Using Coffee Supreme beans roosted locally in Abbotsford, it's a low impact trade that makes a major impact on you taste buds. Tiny is sweet as; a compact but perfectly formed little package with a cute little yellow flag marking the spot outside.

Mileto's
132 Chapel St, Windsor
Formerly a butcher shop, deli and fruit and veg joint, Mileto's has undergone an impressive transformation. This gorgeous Chapel Street eatery has now become a cafe cum deli, with soaring old wooden beam ceilings and exposed brick exuding a warm, barn-like charm. The food is a hearty twist on the traditional, and you can still stock up on plenty of deli goodies too. The staff are welcoming and eccentric, giving a quintessentially kooky Windsor-end charm to this invitingly homely spot.

Luxbite
38 Toorak Road, South Yarra
Let them eat cake, someone once said, and it didn’t go very well for her in the end. Still, Luxbite seems to know just how to keep the commoners happy. Their yummy cakes and 'it kid' macarons are tantalising outrageous. It's like Charlie's Chocolate Factory in here with row upon row of multicoloured, handcrafted delights of a sugary disposition. Those with a sweet tooth will be in heaven, but if you're not into cake, don't lose your head, just soak up the Parisian atmosphere and sup on some espresso instead.

Heirloom
131 Bourke Street, Melbourne
Heirloom literally refers to a family possession handed down from generation to generation, and this fairly recent addition to Melbourne's CBD is certainly something to be treasured. The family in question is Shiego Nonaka from Market Lane's Shoya and Jacques Reymond stalwart Kyle Doody. A marriage between French and Japanese cuisine wouldn't necessarily strike me as obvious, but I'd put money on this joint outlasting Wills and Kate. The flavours are scintillating, the dry meat locker is impressive, and the Sake bar keeps traditionalists happy.
