Editorial Review

In the grounds of the Abbotsford Convent, formerly the Convent of the Good Shepherd and now a precinct for arts, culture and education, sits Lentil as Anything. A non-profit incorporated association, Lentil as Anything embodies a philosophy that defies today's money-driven society. A self-proclaimed social experiment, there are no set prices here and customers are left to decide what they feel is an appropriate price to pay for the organic vegan/vegetarian food and service provided. Sit indoors or out under low hanging trees surrounded by the Yarra River, the Yarra Bend Park and the Collingwood Children's Farm.

Breakfast is available till midday and although the selection is small, the offerings, such as sweet pancakes with yoghurt, maple syrup, sultanas and almonds, are delicious with all ingredients freshly sourced from local organic suppliers. Alternatively, from the all-day lunch and dinner menu, choose a lentil or tofu burger with mayo, lettuce, tomato, cucumber and a choice of satay, coriander-pesto, sweet chilli or hot chilli sauce; or a traditional coconut-based Sri Lankan pumpkin curry served with yoghurt, eggplant relish, red rice and roti. Otherwise, take your pick from the daily changing specials board.
