Editorial Review
Yes, the name is confusing but Lime Bar is still attracting Kensington locals despite its recent change to a daytime cafe. Opposite the station on Bellair Street, this cafe is part of the ongoing gentrification of this inner-city suburb. The look is modern (think lime green, white and the ever popular mission brown), the decor restrained, and the atmosphere relaxed. Sit at one of the leather couches or outside on the pavement to waste a couple of hours over a long weekend breakfast or lunch, Kensington-style.
The breakfast menu is ideal for anyone searching for a hangover remedy. This former bar understands the need for a big breakfast. The Morning After - a hearty feast of eggs, bacon, mushrooms, Sicilian sausages and hash browns - is satisfying. If you miss breakfast, then the lunch menu will make up for the late start. The food is reasonable cafe fare, though perhaps lacking in imagination. Try the Big Boy, a classic BLT, or the fish and chips (tempura battered whiting) as a wake-up call. The selection of pasta, especially the penne with wild mushrooms, roasted garlic and goat's cheese, will hit the spot. There is a good selection of beer if you believe in the hair of the dog; otherwise, order a coffee and an orange juice.
