Editorial Review
It's not just the name that's hip at Grandma Funks. The decor is pure retro and the menu is so extensive you'll never be short on options. They're happy to accommodate larger parties too, offering set menu options for up to 60 people.Breakfast is available from 8am to noon weekdays and until 4pm weekends. Feast on the Grandma's zoobreaker, a toasty croissant sandwich with bacon, cheese, tomato and a fried egg with hollandaise. Focaccias are available from 11.30am with intriguing options like the V.B.L.T. of veal, bacon, lettuce, tomato and cheese, or Grandma's monster meat lovers with beef, chicken, prosciutto, caramelised onion, cos lettuce, cheese, tomato and mayonnaise. Choose from the "small interesting things" menu late at night like the Funk's couch potatoes: potato chunks baked with sauteed bacon, caramelised onion and melted cheese, served with sour cream or sweet chilli, or head straight for a burger or sandwich option with all the traditional favourites served with fries. Risotto and pastas are offered like the favourite spag'bol, or opt for a main course like Grandma's chunky lamb stew with vegetables in a rich, red, rosemary infused sauce, served with toasted olive bread. There are also daily blackboard specials and wood-fired pizza. Grandma Funks is fully licensed offering cocktails, shakers and shooters, beer, wine and spirits.

Heide: I had lunch there recently and the food was enjoyable but the service was appalling. Plenty of staff but they were all standing around talking to each other! First we couldn't get served, then the meals took ages (and didn't all come out at the same time) and we then had to clear our own table as the empty plates had been sat there so long. I wouldn't bother again. (30 June 2008)
Emma: Brunched here recently and it was divine. Service was a bit slow but I much prefered that to waitresses jumping up and down impatiently on a Saturday morning. The menu has so many choices that our group of 10 all had something different and the chef must run the kitchen like clockwork because they all came out together. Great banana milkshake too! JAZ: I live near this place and it's awful. So-so food really long wait times and terrible backpacker waitresses who don't know service. I actually had to leave one weekend after we waited over an hour for breakfast and go somewhere else! Just to get fed! (08 April 2008)
Ellie: Had a terrible meal at this place a few weeks ago - walnut chicken. Chicken was supposed to be a breast encrusted in walnuts, but was a beat-to-hell, dry and burnt schnitzel with no noticeable trace or taste of walnuts. Came with a tomato salsa that looked more like pasta sauce and was entirely tateless. Meal minus two bites went back to kitchen - waitress didn't even ask why - cashier gave me my money back when I told them the meal was terrible. A shame - I've had lovely meals there in the past. Kellio: Not a bad place - menu is bistro-ish and huge (lots of pastas, pizzas, burgers) so will please just about anyone. Nice relaxed vibe with some really, really good-looking cakes in the showcase - coffee's not bad, but if you ask for a hot chocolate, emphasise the hot otherwise you get one of those annoying lukewarm concoctions. Andrew: Great stopped in for Breakfast good food, good price, retro fit out, even had the space invader pinball machines. (28 April 2007)
