Editorial Review
Situated on St Kilda’s busiest strip, Greasy Joe’s is an institution in its own right. While famed for its generous breakfast portions and other tempting fare, the best reason for coming here is the burgers. Despite what the name suggests the burgers are anything but greasy and the only thing that drips from between the delicious buns is the juice from the house-made patties. Sit indoors with the pulsing music and harried yet efficient staff, or outdoors taking in the unique sights of one of Melbourne's better known streets. The recently added rear courtyard is perfect for a sunny day.
Start the day with a triple bypass breakfast where all good things come in threes; three eggs, three sausages, three rashers of bacon, three hash browns, onion rings and a porterhouse steak. Lunch on “The Fat Bastard” which, in keeping with the threes, is a burger comprising triple beef patties, triple cheese, triple bacon, mustard, mayo and onions (no salad) with fat chips. Alternatively, start with an entree of prawn cutlets, grilled and served with bearnaise. Follow with barbecue pork spare ribs with a baked potato and GJ’s barbecue sauce. Greasy Joe’s are fully licensed with a concise wine list, or enjoy a drink at the GJ’s bar. Weekends are massive here so arrive early if you want a table.
