Lustre Lounge
Editorial
The views from Lustre Lounge balcony are spectacular. Granted, all you can really see is the corner of Flinders Lane and De Graves, but that's the chief intersection of Melbourne's indie and arts community. You could write an entire PHD on social dynamics and urban tribes while perched up on the balcony, cocktail in hand. Truly, this is the stuff of great authors/drinkers dream of.
Alternatively, you can take your drink inside and enjoy the plush interior and laidback elegance. With polished, wooden floors, peach walls and oversized couches, Lustre is a world away from the grungy laneway below. Popular with professionals and locals, it doesn't have any of the pretension you might find in nearby venues, i.e. you don't have to be in a band or have a gallery opening on your CV to feel comfortable.
The drink selection is quite expansive, with a heavy bias towards cocktails (all of them a flat $16). The spirits are also quality first-pour labels and the wine selection will get you where you need to be. If you're looking for an out-of-the-way venue with great views, quality drinks and a relaxed vibe, then Lustre comes highly recommended.

This is my favourite bar in Melbourne. I work for NAB and we are at Lustre Lounge most Friday nights because we feel comfortable there and are looked after (especially by Gerard - god bless him). Agree with most of the earlier review, laid back, friendly staff who can make up cocktails off the menu on request. Don't agree that the drinks are more expensive? GOD last week we paid $12 per standard drink at Silk Road!!! In a group of 10 people averaging 6-8 drinks each, the cost of rounds was truely ridiculous! I think a standard drink at Lustre Lounge is about $7 or $8 which is normal for a cool bar? Does anyone disagree? And take into consideration that they use bottled mixers instead of crappy machine post mix and quality first pours for the spirits AND have after work drink specials on Friday nights. Highly recommend - tell Gerard I sent you ha ha.
