Jimmy Little & GANGgajang
Editorial Review
Jimmy Little is one of Australia's most successful Aboriginal musicians. Starting his career in the 1950s, he was one of the first native musicians to gain industry recognition and enjoyed a run of chart hits throughout the '60s and '70s. Influenced by country music, American singers like Nat King Cole and his own cultural heritage, Little created a new sonic template, one that has seen him continue to perform and release records for the last 50 years and change.
His legacy was formerly acknowledged by the Australian music industry in 1999 with an induction into the ARIA Hall of Fame and two ARIA awards for his Messenger album - Best Country Album and Best Adult Contemporary Album. Featuring covers of well-known Australian tracks from the '80s, The Messenger marked a new chapter in Little's life and his legacy. His interpretations of classics like Under the Milky Way (The Church) and Into Temptation (Crowded House) won over a new generation of fans and saw him back out on the road for a massive tour.
Ten years later, and having survived a Kidney transplant, Little is back out on the road, performing those classic covers alongside new and original material. Joining him is legendary Australian act, GANGgajang (in acoustic mode), and more than 50 years worth of music to work through.
