Editorial Review
How many musicians have appeared on The Muppet Show and stormed out of Celebrity Big Brother? Not many. In fact, as far as we know, Leo Sayer is the only person in history to have done both. Not at the same time, mind.
Sayer began his recording career in the early '70s, writing songs for other acts. He released his debut solo material in the mid '70s and enjoyed modest success in the UK. It wasn't until '77 that he broke through internationally with You Make Me Feel Like Dancing. The song hit number one on the US Charts and won a Grammy for Best Rhythm and Blues Song. A string of hits followed, and Sayer was then on The Muppet Show performing alongside Miss Piggy and Kermit faster than you can say 'Hee-ya!'
Although he's been performing around the world since his heyday in the late '70s, the last couple of decades have seen Sayer get by very nicely on songwriting royalties. Numerous bands have covered his material and it's popped up in all kinds of movies.
Relocating to Australia in 2005, Sayer has been living in Sydney ever since. He even made an appearance on Celebrity Big Brother in 2007 - although he stormed out when the show's producers refused to provide him with clean underwear. Weird. Might be best to avoid that subject if you run into him after one of his concerts. It's a sensitive topic.
