Zoo Twilights 2010
Editorial
Music and wildlife lovers rejoice! Melbourne Zoo is hosting a series of music events throughout January, February and March, appropriately called Zoo Twilights. Some of the country's favourite musicians are on hand to entertain patrons at these concerts, among them; Joe Camilleri and the Black Sorrows, Diesel, James Reyne and Mark Seymour. A number of tribute acts are also hitting the stage, performing classics from the back catalogues of Kylie Minogue, Neil Diamond, Queen and ABBA.
While he experienced his first chart hits in the late '70s, Joe Camilleri is best remembered as the frontman for The Black Sorrows. The group released a string of successful albums and topped charts with songs like Chained to the Wheel, Harley and Rose and Hold on to Me.The success of the Black Sorrows also saw singers, Vicka and Linda Bull, branch out as their own music entity - but that's a separate story. Rumour has it Camilleri is roping in some lemur backing singers for his Melbourne Zoo performances.
Diesel, meanwhile, is one of the most respected and sought after musicians in the local industry. A mainstay since the late '80s, he's scored Top 10 hits with singles like Crying Shame and Tip of My Tongue. With doors to the concerts opening at 5.30pm and selected exhibits open to the public, you can observe the animals settling in for the evening before taking in a night of live music. It's definitely a great night out for the entire family.
