Stepping into the dimly lit space that is Der Raum, one is greeted by a glittering bar full of bottles hanging from the ceiling (a new use for the Ocky strap!) and a white-aproned bartender. Avoid your instinct to flee as your brain tells you this may get a bit hairy, and prepare yourself for one night you will not forget... actually, chances are you probably will.
Der Raum takes a simple approach to cocktail mixing; molecular. No, there aren't any microscopes built into the bar top, nor do staff from the CSIRO drop in for a quick one after work. Simply, Der Raum take recipes from a bygone age, apply currently available ingredients and equipment, and create new delights for your palette. It's no wonder the bartenders and cocktails here have piled up more awards than Lindsay Lohan has rehab visits.
Beware: there is a blacklist of banned alcohol. Asking for Bundaberg Rum, Midori, Southern Comfort et al will see you given a thorough spanking and shown to the door.
