Sister Bella

Like most of Melbourne's coolest bars, Sister Bella is hard to find. And once you've been ensconced within its walls for an evening with several Tiger beers under your belt, even harder to find your way back.

Editorial Review

Hidden down the back alley of another back alley, Sister Bella ticks all the right boxes. Aside from being hard to find, it boasts a hole-in-the-wall entrance, two levels of dilapidated space, tattooed and pierced staff, a ramshackle selection of furniture and a very Melbourne attitude. That said, if you want to enjoy all the above, you'd best duck in on a weeknight - the place has become a victim of its own success on Friday and Saturday nights and seating is at a premium.

Drop in on regular night and you'll find a random selection of couches upstairs, which are complimented by some op-shop coffee tables and junk yard paintings, as well as some beads to divide the bar area from the lounge section. Meanwhile, the narrow downstairs hallway has a separate bar and a selection of crates for people to sit on.

The drinks at Sister Bella aren't going to win any awards, but they do the job, offering a selection of local and imported beers alongside a modest wine selection. Nothing fancy, but it fits in with the venues general ambience. Either way, your local and inter-state friends will be impressed.

A nice warm comfortable sort of place that isn't try-hard funky or up its own arse - go the mulled wine! They do an ok coffee, too.

Cute little bar at the bottom of an alley, through a non-descript door and up a flight of un-fancy wooden stairs. Low-key inside - you can actually hold a conversation in here without being drowned out by doof. Nice.

This bar is a great double level bar that offeres a good range of local and imported beers at very reasonable prices. With a gourmet kitchen downstairs, its the perfect place for a gool old fashioned Melbourne alleyway snack and longneck. Shame u can't take drinks outside when you smoke though :S
