Editorial Review
If you live in Melbourne and have never been to the Metropolitan Hotel, we suggest getting off your chair and heading for the door, right now. An institution for over 150 years (bear in mind Melbourne has only been here for a little over that), the Metropolitan has seen many makeovers to become one of the most stylish contenders in the alcoholic landscape today. Situated close to the city centre, a steady stream of office workers and tourists pass through the doors, all leaving with that satisfied smile of someone sated and happy.
On weekdays, the Metropolitan serves a wide variety of meals to corporate types, or just those blowing through town and after solid feed. Pizzas, parmas, salads and a choice of meat dishes are all reasonably priced (it's nice to see you can still get a steak in this city for under $20). Weekends tend to be a more formal affair, with families and couples dining at crisp white tableclothes, and enjoying a host of, again, reasonably priced wines from across Australia.
And if you're near the bar, take note of the unique beer taps. Handcrafted from bronze, each tap is like a frosted sculpture, serving our city's favourite drops: Beez Neez, Redback, Stella, Kronenberg, Coopers Pale, Carlton Draught and more.
