David Helfgott is a name not often heard without a descriptor of excellence preceding it. From child prodigy to phenomenon and virtuoso he continues to be honoured as one of the world's best pianists and now one Hamer Hall's worth of Melburnians get to see him live.

As a seasoned performer of romantic-era works, David Helfgott is considered one of the finest interpreters of Rachmaninov, Liszt and Chopin and has also been dubbed 'Liszt reincarnated'. He interprets a selection of romantic classics at this one-off performance.

The life of David Helfgott was thrust into the public eye via the 1996 film Shine by Scott Hicks, uncovering the trials of his mental illness as well as his astounding talent. The film became a box-office hit and Oscar winner, while its soundtrack became a bestseller, making Helfgott the highest-selling classical artist in 1997.

The Melbourne-born and Perth-raised Helfgott continues to tour at age 61 and has already performed in the USA, Italy, Denmark and New Zealand this year.
