Priscilla Opens in London
Editorial ReviewEditorial Review
National Arts NewsDue to premiere in London's West End in March 2009, 30 members of the Aussie cast have frocked up for our Commonwealth counterparts to celebrate the opening of Priscilla Queen of the Desert - the Musical at the British box office. They claim to have been keeping a low profile for photo ops around town but it's no surprise that sequinned glad rags and 15-inch platform shoes at Piccadilly caused Pommy mayhem in peak hour.
Tony Sheldon, having spent two years in Bernadette's stylish stilettos, will take his genius to the London production, while ex-pat Jason Donavan will delight in the character of Tick. Brit performer Olivier Thornton will play the last of the trio of 'cocks in frocks' as Felicia.
Taking more than $90 million here at home, making it the most successful Australian musical ever, versions for Toronto, Germany and Sweden planned for the next two years are sure to capture the hearts and vivid imaginations of the world.
