Australia's proud tradition as a sporting nation is encapsulated and celebrated within the hallowed halls of the Sport Australia Hall of Fame. It stands as a testament to the greats of the country's history, honouring close to 500 athletes by inducting them in as members of the Hall of Fame.

Sir Donald Bradman was the first to receive the honour when the SAHOF opened on 10 December, 1985 with Dawn Fraser as the first female inductee. As well as recognising the achievements of the past, the SAHOF is dedicated to future Aussie athletes, hosting a Spirit of Sport scholarship program aimed at youngsters aged less than 21.

The hall is housed within the National Sports Museum, located at the Melbourne Cricket Ground. The venue is a mecca for sports fans where, apart from the Hall of Fame, they can also find the Australian Gallery of Sport and Olympic Museum, the Australian Cricket Hall of Fame and the Aussie Rules Exhibition. The sacred turf is easily accessible with the Jolimont and Richmond stations close by and several tramlines and bus routes stopping right alongside the MCG.
