Token Events, a traditional comedy production company, has bowled out some of Australia's largest theatre companies, including Sydney's Company B and the Sydney Opera House for the rights to produce and develop Shane Warne: The Musical.

Created by Eddie Perfect, the musical is kitted out with songs such as What an SM-ess I Am In and a silly mid-off tune about beer. A heavy metal tribute to diuretics, Hush Little Shane, slips in alongside a Bollywood number which features an Indian bookie.

"Shane Warne: The Musical has been an unusual show from the start, a kind of left field idea", says Perfect. He is also adamant that Warne's story is remarkable and the ideal material for a very comic musical. It's billed as the next Keating!, which was a resounding success for Company B, but with a more universal character.

One could say that a comic tale of arguably the world's greatest spin bowler could be damaging, but with a reputation like Warne's, there is probably no place for boundaries anymore.

In fact, commentators say that Perfect's version of Warney's life is surprisingly sympathetic, with a moral perspective offered from the point of view of wife Simone. Howzat? Click here  to read an inteview with Eddie Perfect.
