New Yorker Nicolo Fonte joins forces with Australian composer Ross Edwards to create a technical and abstract piece based on a journey. Fonte is an internationally acclaimed choreographer who last worked with the Australian Ballet in 2004 to present his ballet Almost Tango.
Canadian Matjash Mrozewski draws inspiration from Gerard Brophy's exotic rhythms in his representation of Semele, a Greco-Roman myth that brings god and mortal together in the embrace of love. Mrozewski is a maestro of contemporary ballet and modern dance and is highly acclaimed for his fusion of classical ballet and high drama.
The Australian Ballet's own resident choreographer Stephen Baynes pairs up with Richard Mills to further explore the themes surrounding the darkness of night. The three works are presented as a triple bill and have been created specifically for Interplay. Here is an opportunity to witness the work of three world-class choreographers, three of Australia's leading composers and the fruits of creative collaboration.
