Spontaneous and edgy, Holiday takes its viewers through the thoughts, observations and musings of two men. Stripped down to casual beach clothing, the men, played by Paul Lum and award-winning actor Patrick Moffat, exist in a large white box inhabited by stools in one corner, a velvet chaise lounge in another corner and a plastic wading pool with two beach balls floating in its centre.
Directed and written by Ranters Theatre's co-founders Adriano and Raimondo Cortese, Holiday journeys from the bar to the pool and the lounge, revealing the anxieties, fantasies and bizarre behaviour of two men seeking to relax. This engaging exploration of the minutiae of human interaction is set to a classical baroque soundtrack featuring the works of Vivaldi, Corelli and Albinoni.
Since 1994, Melbourne's Ranters Theatre has dedicated itself to producing contemporary, non-representational, minimalist work. Their unique, text-based style places the spotlight on the performer rather than the character and makes for raw, thought-provoking theatre.
