Editorial Review

Books @ Federation Square presents Poetry @ Federation Square. These free poetry readings are held on the second Saturday of every month and feature readings from poets including Iggy McGovern, an Irish professor of physics who has regularly had his work published both in Ireland and overseas. His witty, humorous poems have won him many awards such as the McCrae Literary Award in 2003.

Fellow reader Marietta Elliot-Kleerkoper, who is a former president of the Melbourne Poets Union, has won various poetry prizes and has had her work published in several Australian journals and anthologies.

Angela Costi will also feature; her work has appeared in various online publications and in well-known print pieces and has been presented at a large number of stages and festivals. Her words often explore a marriage of the English and Cypriot-Greek dialects that she grew up with.

The event also features readings from Helen Nickas, who is a lecturer in Greek Studies at La Trobe University. She has founded her own publication company with an aim to educate readers about Greek-Australian literature. Her publications include bi-lingual poetry collections.

Poetry @ Federation Square is an ideal place to sit back, relax, listen to some great poetry and have a coffee - and you can also have a browse through the 5000-plus books available in the book market.

Tony Tucker, October 2007
