Switch on with this year's The Light in Winter - a joyous, enlightening event that brings together artists, designers and communities with messages of hope. Directed by Robyn Archer, this gorgeous event makes the most of the season by bringing together winter light with art.
Two special elements will light up Fed Square with winter glow. International filmmaker and artist Srinivas Krishna celebrates the sacred Hindu gods with When the Gods Came Down to Earth, premiering on Fed Square's recycled big screen on 13 June. The screening explores rituals and magical auras and runs for four weeks in a continuous cycle.
At dusk on 21 June, nine Melbourne communities bring light-inspired art as their gift of enlightenment to the city. The communities, which include Indigenous, Japanese, Indian, Tuvalu, Hispano-American, Afghan, Vietnamese and Turkish, have worked with an artist to explore the meaning of light. The Gift of Light will be launched at 6pm on the longest night of the year and winter-loving Melburnians are invited to share the opening with music and performance. It will be on display every night from dusk until 5 July.
So don't be caught with the winter blues, head down to Fed Square between 12 June and 13 July and find some illumination.
