Victorian College Of The Arts (V C A)

A B O U T  T H E  V C A

The Victorian College of the Arts is Australia's premier visual and performing arts education and training institution.

The VCA has a distinguished History, and has been sustaining, nurturing and inspiring talented emerging artists for 133 years.

The VCA awards degrees and postgraduate
programs and short courses through the schools of Art, Dance, Drama, Film & Television, Music, the Production Centre and the Centre for Ideas.

All staff who teach in both award and short courses are professional artists who are committed to innovation in an interdisciplinary, international and culturally diverse environment.

VCA short courses
are run in holidays, evenings and weekends and are taught by VCA staff – one feature is the ARTIST IN THE WORLD. In 2001, the VCA began running a common curriculum  for our undergraduate students through The Centre for Ideas.
We are now happy to be able to offer this excellent seminar program to the general public through the Community Access program.

The course runs for 2 semesters. Starting in First Semester 2002. The lectures are presented on a Wednesday morning at 10am, and run for 10 weeks.

This course is an introduction to cultural theory, introducing participants to key ideas that have been influential in modern culture.  This is not an art history class, but rather a broad ranging investigation into what makes our cultures work and how the past informs the present.

The VCA is affiliated with the University of Melbourne, all degrees and diplomas are awarded by the University of Melbourne.
