SAND FILTERS

Many people depend on sand filters because they provide excellent filtration with minimum effort.

"Dirty" water passes through a bed of sand which traps dirt particles, allowing "clean" filtered water to return to the pool.

When the filter becomes dirty, the flow of water is reversed to "backwash" the dirt out of the bed of sand and out to waste. The sand remains in the filter for future use.

DE FILTERS

DE filters require a little more attention, but you can depend on one of these filters for even finer clarity filtration.

There are a number of elements inside a DE filter that are coated with a fine diatomaceous earth power. This powder actually traps the dirt particles allowing clean filtered water to return to the pool.

Like sand filters, DE filters are also cleaned by reversing the flow of water and "backwashing" the dirt and used DE powder out to waste. DE powder must be added to the filter after each backwash.

CARTRIDGE FILTERS

You can depend on Cartrdige filters for a more economical system, as they do not require backwash valves.

They have a pleated element similar in design to a car oil filter. Dirty water passes through the element and dirt particles are caught in the pleats, allowing clean water to return to the pool.

The cartridge filter element is easily cleaned by taking it out of the filter tank and hosing out the pleats.
