Victoria Police was formally established on 3 January 1853, and had a total strength of 875 men to serve a population of 168,000.
Today, Victoria Police has a total of 12,489 employees servicing approximately 4.52 million Victorians.
Through 330 police stations and other specialists units, Victoria Police provides "a safe, secure and orderly society by serving the community and the law" 24 hours a day, every day of the year.
