Resident Activities Program at Rosewood Gardens
As Activities Officer at Rosewood Gardens, I provide activities for the physical, intellectual and general well being of our residents.
I conduct two sessions: 10.45am - 11.45am and 2.00pm - 3.00pm, three days a week: Monday, Tuesday and Thursday.
Wendi Huggins takes activities Wednesday and Friday mornings and we have Stan Lacey leading an exercise program on Wednesday afternoon. I begin the morning session with some jokes and limbering up exercises (all seated) to get us going. I encourage participants with conversation and laughter, as I feel this generates a positive mood for the day. This is followed by one of the following "sports": carpet bowls, quoits, hooky, or balloon volleyball. Games and exercises promote physical flexibility and reflexes. Residents' physical limitations are considered at all times and no one is put at risk.
In the afternoons we have one of the following activities: general knowledge and team quiz, crosswords (done on a large board so no reading or writing is necessary), word games such as Scrabble, Anagrams, Letter Dice, Boggle, Movies or Documents, Fives (a category game), and Bingo or Music Bingo (name that tune). In the word games, much assistance and encouragement is given to "jog" memories. We also have a visual display folio called "Bright Windows on my World" to do this and promote discussion.
